Endymion's True Form

True Form: Endymion is a mostly humanoid figure standing a full foot taller than his human form. He usually dresses in a Greek styled white tunic with a gold breastplate otherwise known as an aegis, his namesake. His flesh is the same color as that of the human body, a forge tanned olive. The face looks very similar but a little more angular and something almost aquiline. This is especially visible in Endymion's slanted and golden eyes. His ears are pointed and tufted at the tips with rusty colored feathers, and there are a pair of fangs visible beneath his lips. The creature's head is smooth and bald, his body muscular, his hands end in three fingers and a thumb, and his legs are digitigrade. These legs end oddly enough not with hooves like some might expect, but with a series of splayed clawed toes. He sports a long muscular tail that ends with a harsh looking blade. Lastly, the creature sports a pair of wings that are neither angel nor devil, but a mesh of the two. Leathery dark grey, covered up to where the coverts would be on a bird's wing in a fluffy layer of rusty mottled feathers.

Endymion's Human Appearance

Human: In his human form, Endymion resembles a man of medium height and an athletic build with muscular arms from working at the smith. His skin is a forge tanned olive hue and he often sports small burns along his arms that never seem to last for long or scar. He has honey colored eyes and curly black hair of a medium length. Despite his hard work at the smith, the man's hands never callous. He has a kind and noble looking face with an almost rugged appearance. While talking with his friend Zilliah, Endymion was surprised to learn that the human form he had obtained was that of "a desirable specimen." He is a fan of fancy dress and finer fabrics, and when not working, keeps himself impeccably dressed. Though, being a blacksmith his work clothes are often soiled by soot and sport small scorch marks.

Background

Origins

Endymion is a being of the Ether, a realm of belief and thought. A place where inspiration takes form and where myths can call home and draw their power. He is a creature composed more of thoughts and beliefs than actual blood. He is ageless; yet technically speaking, before arriving at The Broken Dagger, Endymion did not exist.

Endymion started out as nothing more than wisps and shadows born out of the stories and fears of primitive humans eons ago, born of imaginings and dreams. Back in a time when the world was new and magic saturated the land even more so than today. Man rose with intelligence, and a need to pass on that intelligence. A need to explore and seek meaning. Discovery the whys of the World. And what Man could see not explanations for? He invented explanations for. And so myths were born.

Endymion is different. Endymion the Mythless as other creatures free to roam the Ether refer to him. He had his chance to branch off a new story, to even become the Beginning of his own race. He lost his chance, his chance to become a shared myth of a people, to become his own people, his chance to solidify and become real. His chance for a Name. None of this was through any fault of his own. As stated before; the World was new back then. New and filled with more dangers than today. A rival band of humans slaughtered the tribe from which Endymion can trace his roots.

There was no longer any Myth to call his own. Nor were there any people to carry on and continue his What and Who. There was no Myth to tie him to the Earth. So, Endymion retreated to the Ether as a partially formed creation that could barely be considered a thought. It could scarcely be said that at this point, whether Endymion even truly ever existed. He persevered, remained active; at first through the residual power and empathic energies clinging to surviving artifacts from his origins, and then later through the Sparks of inspiration and imagination. He became a being that fed off the positive energies of artistic creation.

It took Endymion centuries to gather up enough power and energy to subsist on his own. It took even longer than that to figure out how to manifest himself a body of sorts. There were faults to his attempts of course. Endymion could only take on the forms of his limited myth exposure; a scary shadow, a hawk-like creature, or a dark figure. But mostly Endymion’s forms took the shape of blurry and unknown fears from the darkness he never had a chance to rise out of. Endymion named himself after this action of visiting the Earth, his diving into the world.

There were further downsides in store for Endymion. While he could enter the world, he could not become a true part of it, as technically speaking he was not real. Only the very young and very old could even See him. The young, for they were not long away from the place of Before; and the old, for they would soon be joining the After. Endymion walked the lines between nonexistence, existence and life. Throughout his frequent visits to the surface world, Endymion soon took on a reputation that was equally good and bad.

What Endymion yearned for the most were stories. To hear the tales that gave off the energies that fed his Ethereal form. The only problem was to hear such tales would put him into view of humans for the first time. And further solidifying his streak of luck, the place he would be most likely to hear those coveted stories were around children. But sometimes someone would smile down on Endymion, and there would be protection from his normal misfortune. Young children could see him, and young children are much more open, trusting, and accepting to the bizarre. Most of these would treat Endymion as a friend.

His unusual semi-existence on Earth was starting to become a happy one, learning of myths and being in the presence of happy and delighted children boosted his power, even if other Ether beings would laugh at him for dragging himself into the roles of Imaginary Friend, Guardian Angel, and the hated Boogeyman as some had perceived him. It was during one of these roles, that Endymion met Raia.

He had felt impressions of something familiar during one of his brief visits to the physical realm. Endymion investigated one night and ended up in the yard of a small house, there had to be some sort of artifact buried nearby. He never found an artifact, instead someone found him. A young girl lived in the house and she could See him, [More to come!]
