Description

Vara has long locks, dark as her father's were in his youth, which boast the thickness of her mother's hair as well as the woman's curls, and fall well past a small waist when left unsecured by the expected, though terribly busy coiffures of a lady of the court, complete with their myriad of plaits, twists, and pins in order to keep everything in its place.

Bright green eyes seem far too old, far too serious in their stares for someone of her age, despite her station--the hue passed from father to daughter--and set within a face unmistakably inherited from her mother. Should the two stand side by side, one might easily mistake the pair for sisters.

Vara is a willowy creature at present, with the slender frame that adolescence often affords youth who have sprouted up rather of a sudden, leaving distinct hints of the curves that will fill out fully within the span of another year or two. Smooth hands are tell-tale signs of privilege, never having known what it is to work the soft skin through blisters until calluses take over; that complexion meanwhile, boasts of the luxury of milk baths followed by moisture-rich oils.

The daughter of the Crimson Duke, Vara's wardrobe contains a multitude of gowns fashioned from expensive fabrics, most of which have been dyed that same primary hue: red.

Background

Origins

Vara, though truly a daughter of Thessilane, was in fact, born right here in Myrken Wood. Rumor has it that she came into the world in the very same room in the Broken Dagger Inn that she was likely conceived, delivered by the tavern's proprietor at the time, Raegan Darkblayde. For in those early years, the happy couple spent quite a lot of time there in the new Duchess's homeland. The blushing bride, who was a chambermaid at that very same inn when she chanced to meet the dashing young Duke, was also born within it, for her mother had also lived and worked there--but that is all part of another story.

The Broken Dagger

In happier times, those early years before the war, the Duke and Duchess of Thessilane made regular visits to Myrken Wood, such that they had rooms on reserve within the Broken Dagger tavern for the duration. Though Vara is certainly no stranger to the establishment or the township, it has been several years since she's been beneath the inn's roof.

Crimson Colors Shed

The Present

With the impending threat that the Crown poses to the Tassnehof home and way of life as troops advance on Meadowford, the Duchess Lenore has acted without counsel or collaboration, sending her eldest child out of Thessilane in the hopes that Vara might be afforded more safety in the household of one of her oldest friends, Ariane Carnath-Emory.

Following their arrival in Myrken Wood, Vara and her companions learn of the encampment of Crown troops just outside town. All things crimson have been removed, and the Right Honorable Lady of Thessilane has lost her identity, along with her homeland and her family in exchange for plainer clothing and a job within the Broken Dagger. To say that the youth is currently miserable would be putting it mildly.
