The Empire

For nearly two hundred years, the Empire has remained hidden from the people of Trae Kelsa, strange incidents occured occasionally - involving unusual elvenfolk that seemed drawn to any dramatic event, curiously. Anything from political turmoil to bloodshed on field of battle. The constant factor is that none of them stepped forward to be known.

The Empire of Rainbows, despite the name, has a dark history. They've maintained secrecy for over two hundred years; or so says some historians who were fortunate enough to see the Empire that appears whenever a Rainbow is seen in the skies. The Empire is immense, but nothing like what spawns in the mind's eye when someone speaks of an Empire.

They are at least ten thousand or more strong, their population is culled, allowing for a more controlled environment. The Empire is led by a woman called the 'Princess of Rainbows'; a woman with the most power of all the elves - blessed by the Rainbow. She seems to be chosen at birth from an assortment chosen by her Handmaidens from the city itself. Once chosen, the others are sacrificed in her name.

The elves, gifted with no name, worship their Princess - who is rarely seen, if ever. This woman, whose existance is constantly questioned by outsiders, sits within a palace that seems carved from the mind of the orient. Tiered and elegant, with designs of an exotic sort, the building rises from the midst of the misty walled Empire. It was a symbol of their people and their time within this world.

The Walled City

The city is surrounded by a specially created wall, embued with magic that allows it to simply disappear from site. Because of the legends that have spawned, the Empire only appears when a Rainbow shines brilliantly in the sky. (Some say that this is where their name came from, but there is no real leads.)

The magic is just a widely spread invisibility pall, allowing for them to remain hidden for so long without too much interference in their daily lives. Those unfortunate few travelers that stumbled upon the Empire were taken in and never seen again. Many have been used in the gruesome rituals that the elves take on, the others that are spared are used to guard the Princess and her Handmaidens. Nevertheless, wary travelers have disappeared into the Empire's invisible hands.

Their rituals consist of mostly sacrifices to the Rainbow, but they are restricted to their criminals and the children that must die for the sake of the population being maintained and order kept. Those travelers that have been sacrificed were done so out of the sheer necessity of the elves; most travelers seek knowledge and artifacts that are not theirs - resulting in their criminal activities being punished.

The Princess of Rainbows

Anehleia is the Princess. She is accompanied by two women, Audred and Anest'ewyn. These are her most important Maidens, they handle all diplomatic affairs - including becoming ambassadors for the Princess when she has decided to make her presence known.

Audred, the leader of the Royal Handmaidens, has decided (with permissions of the Princess) to venture out with Anest'ewyn to Myrken Wood where they have had the privilege to get information concerning what has been transpiring. Due to this, the Princess has sent those two (and only those two) on a mission of utmost importance to Myrken Wood.
