Entry Description of Character

Leonardo DelVecci approaches the citadel, a tall, powerfully developed handsome man in his early 30s, with blue eyes, blond hair, exhibiting a fluid grace in his precise movements. He wears a well-made brown great-coat, over a loose fitting white silk shirt, open at the chest, with well fitted brown leather britches, and expensively-serviceable clean leather boots. A simple gold cross hangs from his neck, on his bare chest. He has no visible weapons.

History of Character

Leonardo DelVecci is well versed in the arts, literature, music, and the sciences. He has a dry sense of humor, compassion, and a deep interest in people, their motivations, and their aspirations.

His childhood was the almost perfect one. His parents were kind, loving, and encouraged his emotional and intellectual development in every way that they could. His home was one which stressed the importance of most of the values which the Christian Church purports to believe in, but which its true history {that of the Christian Church} demonstrates were lacking in many of its interactions with people and governments.

While at the University in Florence, Italy, at the age of 22, and while pursuing a doctoral degree in philosophy, he saved the life of one of the great mystics of his time, Roberto Clemente, by preventing Clementi's mugging late one evening, on the way back to his University digs.

Clemente apparently became enamored of DelVecci. The two of them quickly grew to become fast friends. And it was under these unusual circumstances, that the two of them began to exchange thoughts and philosophical concepts. Clementi took DelVecci under his wing, recognizing the latter's intellect and passion for learning. A deep abiding friendship developed which lasted until the premature death of Clementi five years after the mugging incident, when Clemente was in his early '80s.

As it turned out, the older Clementi had devoted his entire life to research into the structure of time itself. His initial hypothesis, and subsequent research, had indicated that time and space were inexorably linked to one another, and that the artificial separation of time from physical objects {that people perceived to be objects that exist in space} was in fact erroneous. This was in fact later to be borne out with the advent of quantum mechanics in the mid and late 20th-century.

Clementi went on to disapprove the popular notion {at that time} -- that time was in fact a totally separate quantity which could be measured, and that time existed abstractly by itself, without the necessity to be linked to space, and objects within space. Clemente believed that this was in fact quite wrong.

Clemente's philosophical hypotheses indicated that time, space, and objects within that space, formed a continuum. And in point of fact, this continuum could in fact be altered by human psychokinetic abilities in limited ways.

All of these theoretical concepts would simply have been interesting theory, were it not for the fact that Clementi found a substance which when taken internally, allowed him to visualize the simultaneous interrelationships of all three portions of the continuum, and to a small extent, alter these relationships in a way which would produce the equivalent of an event horizon... without the need for the enormous gravitational field's which would later be a derivation of the central thesis of quantum physics, a branch of science which would develop much later in the course of history.

During the course of conversations, and Clementi's instruction of Leonardo, Clementi encouraged Leonardo to use the substance and see whether or not he had any abilities to vary the relationships between the three portions of the continuum.

After using the substance {anamurcium} a number of times, Leonardo DelVecci began to experience a small degree of facility in varying the relationships between space, time, and objects that were contained within the continuum.

Leonardo was fascinated with the effects of anamurcium. He found himself drawn to using it frequently, in order to expand his awareness of the relationships between, time, space, and objects within that space.

Unfortunately because of a mistake in the preparation of the compound, one evening he found that he had taken several times the required dosage. He lapsed into a near coma... and recovered several days later... to find that his mind had been permanently altered... and that he no longer required the drug itself in order to visualize and at least partially control to the continuum. An unfortunate side effect of this however, was that if he became delirious, or his mental self-controlled seriously lapsed, he sometimes would produce inadvertent time-continuum-vortices. He also found that he now possessed a limited ability to read others' mind, and to a limited extent he possessed the ability to communicate telepathically with other entities who were in fact telepathic themselves.

The net effect of this accident, was that the Leonardo DelVecci found that he could produce a field around himself, which actually represented a quantum shift in time. The events occurring on one side of the field, were actually occurring at time A, and the events on the inside of the field were occurring at time B several hundred milliseconds *later*.

Since it is impossible for any physical objects, or any nonphysical objects which have any mass, to cross an event horizon, the net effect is the production of an impenetrable shield. From the outside of the shield one would see an almost perfectly smooth glassy mirrorlike appearance. The reason for this is that light cannot go backwards in time, and it cannot penetrate the event horizon. From the inside of the shield, it is possible to see what is going on outside the shield... the clarity is somewhat hazy. General forms can certainly be seen easily. And there is an infinitesimal lag in sound as well as visual events.

Clemente's untimely death produced a degree of emotional devastation which took many months for DelVecci to overcome. In the course of his travels, he wandered into a region that was known as Teristra. This was the beginning of a segment of his life which was to leave indelible marks on on his very soul.

On first entering The All Trades Inn, DelVecci met a woman by the name of Annora. Although the attraction was great, personality and philosophical differences precluded the development of any long-lasting and meaningful relationship. They separated as friends, who would at a later time perhaps... meet again.

Interestingly, Annora had fallen in love with Tempestro Starr, a mercenary with whom DelVecci also became very friendly.

Rahlaer, Sihlartha, Evalyne, and Sparrow, were only of the few characters that DelVecci grew to know within the Teristra environment.

One of the more sinister characters that DelVecci encountered within the Teristran environment was Charan Jaydemyr... perhaps best known as "Black Cloak"... in many ways a philosophically misguided individual, whose actions reflected much evil. An impending confrontation with Jaydemyr caused DelVecci to seek help from the Liam Zidane. A Creeyad, and the last of his kind, Zidane ran a weapon's shop just outside of the All Trades Inn.

When it became apparent that DelVecci and Jaydemyr would probably clash, with DelVecci easily being the loser, Leonardo sought help from Liam. Liam entrusted DelVecci with two artifacts, which the Creeyad had acquired from a Wraith he was forced to kill in combat.

The ring and the bracelet were to completely change his life. The ring, which by itself offered some protection from Magik, and a bracelet, which had seven stones set within it. Unbeknownst to the Creeyad, the two artifacts were meant to be used together.

As it turned out, the bracelet was the "interface" to the ring itself. By appropriately touching the correct stones, in the correct sequence, it was possible to travel almost an wherever one wished.

DelVecci began experimenting with the artifacts, and after much trial and error was finally able to plan his "arrivals" with a reasonable degree of accuracy. There was however a downside to traveling in this manner, vertigo almost always accompanied his arrival, and usually took 15-20 minutes in order to dissipate.

Although some attributed it to inappropriate use of Magik, fortunately for DelVecci, the demise of Teristra, occurred while he was on his way to Delamar, in pursuit of the moneylender Roderic Cliché.

Having his most recent home, Teristra destroyed by earthquakes, DelVecci found himself searching for... a new home.

Combat Related Information

Any objects which hit the shield are simply reflected... and the attacker has the choice of determining the direction of reflection for combat purposes. The mass of the object hitting the shield or the kinetic energy of the object hitting the shield makes no difference. It is simply reflected since neither mass nor energy can travel through time, without the existence of a distortion in the fabric of space time itself, for example a worm-hole. Since the production of the shield is controlled by Leonardo DelVecci, their is no distortion in the fabric of that shield.

To exemplify, if a 10 ton safe were hurled at the shield, it would simply reflect in whatever direction the attacker determined, and the shield itself nor its occupants would be able to determine the kinetic energy involved, or for that matter feel anything. The exact same thing would apply to something moving at or close to the speed of light. Light photons would cross the barrier.

Leonardo DelVecci has the ability to extend the shield for a maximum distance of 15 feet in all directions from his center of mass. The size of the shield has no bearing on the effort required to generate it, nor the length of time that he can maintain the field-shield.

For purposes of combat, it is only necessary that Leonardo DelVecci be able to place his two hands together in front of him, and that he be in a mental state which allows him to concentrate briefly. Repeated practice in doing this, has cut the time of shield generation to approximately one second.

If he walks forward with the shield generated, objects which the outer surface of the shield contact, would be pushed away without him feeling any of the forces involved. In theory the shield could possibly be used as a very weakly offensive weapon, however it is not my intent to have my character ever use the shield in this way.

The only other unusual ability that my character has, is perhaps equivalent to auspex. He can generally determine the mood of someone, and has a week ability to receive and send telepathic thoughts over relatively short distances.
