The New Myrken Army was initially founded in 207 AR by Lord Aston Jylan Aldred, Councilor for Defence and Civil Security at the time, and was tasked with the defence of Myrken Wood and its people. It was remarkable in Myrken Wood's history in being a standing army of full-time professionals rather than the traditional part-time citizens' militia.

Organisation

The New Myrken Army was divided into regiments, with the number of troops varying by type. At its peak the army possessed one Regiment of Foot, and one Division of cavalry.

Regiments of Horse

Each Regiment of Horse is divided into six Troops, each of seventy troopers plus officers, non-commissioned officers and support staff. On the battlefield each Regiment of Horse is usually fielded as two Divisions of three Troops each, one commanded by the Regimental Colonel, the other by the Lieutenant Colonel.

Regiments of Foot

Each Regiment of Foot is divided into ten Companies, each of a hundred men plus officers, non-commissioned officers and support staff. The first three Companies are led by the Regimental Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel and Major; the remaining seven are led by Captains.

Uniform and Equipment

Soldiers of the Regiments of Foot and troopers of the Regiments of Horse are each provided with halved coats in black and red, with reversed linings that show at the collar and the ends of the sleeves. Officers are denoted by a red sash worn across the chest.

Regiments of Horse

The cavalry wear a back- and breastplate over a buff leather coat, a lobster-tail pot helmet and sturdy bucket-topped riding boots; they are equipped with their unit's primary weapon of a lance, a bow or light crossbow, with a heavy cavalry sabre as a standard sidearm.

Regiments of Foot

Heavy infantry, when fully equipped, wear back- and breastplates over a quilted coat, a pot helmet and armoured tassets to protect the upper legs; they are equipped with their unit's weapon of either a sixteen-foot pike or a halberd, with a sword as a standard sidearm.

Light infantry wear a pot helmet and a mailshirt over a quilted gambeson in uniform colours; they are equipped with their unit's weapon of either an axe and shield or a bow or crossbow, with a sword as a standard sidearm.

Currently

Myrken's Army was a short-lived organisation, and after issues with recruitment, training and funding was eventually disbanded in around 209 AR.
