The Hunger: The name given by Aloisius Treadwell to the feeling of extraordinary hunger felt by the most faithful of the Church of Tubbius. It is a result of a direct connection from a member's spirit to the stomach of Tubbius Himself, although the intensity of The Hunger varies according to one's rank in the Church and the size of the spiritual umbilical between deity and human ghost.

In the case of Aloisius, The Hunger is unique and all-consuming. Being the mortal incarnation of The Glutton, and by extension Tubbius among The Great Slug's other forms, does very little to mitigate the supernatural ravenousness. With the Tubbius Regalis, The Hunger is felt keenly and constantly. The senses of taste and smell are more acute than those of the average individual, and the Tubbius Regalis knows no limit to how much he can physically eat. He feels as if he is on the threshold of starvation at all times, even when he has eaten to the point of being far too full. The only true limit to what Aloisius can eat is the amount of food he can access in a day. Left to his own voracity and an endlessly stocked dinner table, he could eat himself into a grave in short order.

The other individuals to know personally of The Hunger are those who take on the role of Tubbius Princeps: James Wilde was the first, and Langley Treadwell is the second. In the case of the Tubbius Princeps, The Hunger is proportional to the man's growing girth and devotion to the Church. Like with the Tubbius Regalis, there is the accompanying heightening of the senses of taste and smell, but instead of there being a constant ache of emptiness and voracity, The Hunger manifests as a simple desire to eat more and the appetite to match. Fullness is certainly felt as with most people, but, after enough time has passed, The Hunger will again yield the usual gluttonous results.
