Description
Alfred, Lord Harkness was a fat, wealthy architect of Ricathair, Amasynia who was one of the initial families to splinter away from that city to form Westenford. Known for his great girth, his voluminous gray beard, his garish jewelry and dress, and his penchant for being a pompous buffoon in public matters, he still managed to become the third Chief Magistrate of Westenford for nine years prior to his being poisoned by his wife, Genevieve, during her attempt to gain favor with an invading Colonel Barnabas Leland of the Red Caps.
Background
Origins
Lord Harkness spent his childhood and about half of his adult life in Ricathair, working as a wealthy architect and marrying Genevieve. The two of them were part of a sizable exodus to found Westenford at the beginning of the then-new calendar marking of Anno Regalis, year 1. Lord Harkness used his architectural skills to help a small team plan, lay out, and build the beginnings of Westenford. The Harkness family flourished, with two children and great wealth, leading to Lord Harkness's being the most obvious choice when, in his old age in 26 AR, he was asked to replace the late Chief Magistrate to become the third Chief Magistrate of Westenford.
The Broken Dagger
Lord Harkness never ventured to Myrkentown or Myrken Wood.
The Present
Alfred and Genevieve Harkness are both deceased, as chronicled in the play The Most Lamentable Tragedy of Alfred and Genevieve. Their two children, Aaron and Susan, were both adults living in Ricathair by the time of their parents' demise, with Aaron already working as a tailor before being killed over a pricing dispute and Susan long since married into the Chopin family with two children of her own. Eventually, in 145 AR, Susan's great-granddaughter Alison Olivia Chopin would be born. She would years later marry Aloisius Treadwell.
Plots
Alfred, Lord Harkness and Genevieve, Lady Harkness are the primary subjects of the play that made Aloisius Treadwell something of a celebrity in Westenford before his time spent on the Westenford Ruling Council. Otherwise, with both of them deceased, they hold no relevance to modern plotlines.
