Drachiathoryx, aka. Drache S'garsiath

Appearance

The product of a union between a human archmagus named Arime’ and a proud red fire-dragon named S’garsiath, Drache has inherited`traits of both races. At 5’11”, not including her horns, and athletic, she is equal in size to most humans, but she couldn’t look farther from. Her hide is covered with thick shiny scales, gold on her front fading to bloody crimson along her back. Capable of flight, her 14’ wingspan is comprised of golden membranes and gently curving red phalanges. Her tail is long and dexterous, tipped by a boney spade that she generally holds well off the ground. She walks on animal-like legs, her ankles elongated so that only her eight thickly taloned toes touch the ground. There are two vestigial talons further up on the inside of each foot. Her face is snouted like a dragon’s and her ears are concealed in the frilled flaps on either side of her face. Two pointed horns sweep up and back from her skull. Her eyes are reptilian, a shining amber/orange with vertical pupils, giving her a feral and primal visage. Her demeanor and stance often reflect a much more violent existence and often make people uncomfortable when she is around. Smoke occasionally wisps from her nostrils, especially when she is upset or excited.

Her typical clothing consists of an elegant corset, black with gold or silver embroidery. Low-backed and strapless is her usual preference to allow for her expansive wings. Instead of a skirt, she usually elects to wear pants that fit snugly to the knee and then flare at them hem, leaving plenty of room for her raptor-like feet. She almost never wears shoes, and her cloaks generally have slots for the wings. Most that she wears is custom-fitted by necessity and crafted from expensive textiles. It is her jewelry that is most striking, large gems set in intricate, elegant pieces that she wears wherever she can put them, including the tip of her tail and her horns. Most of her baubles are enchanted in some way.

The one item she wears almost all the time is a Belt of Many Pockets. This leather belt spots a half-dozen small pockets like a typical bandolier, which she generally wears around her hips. The pockets, while smaller than a child's palm, are capable of holding far more than they should and are nearly impossible to pick.

Far History

Drache was born in a world far from Trae Kesla. It was a world wracked by war between several races, including a empire of ice-dragon overlords bent on subjugating the rest of civilization. Half-dragons like Drache were seen as stunted pitiable mistakes by purebred fire-drakes, or as cannon-fodder by the ice-drakes. The humanoid races regarded them with fear and suspicion.

Drache's sire perished in battle before she was born, and her mother fled to bear Drache in hiding rather than face the shame of having an off-spring child without him. Living isolated in the woods, Arime' slowly descended into madness and died when Drache was 8 years old.

For several decades, Drache lived alone, a feral beast in a sub-tropical jungle, preying mindlessly on hapless travelers and amassing a small hoard of their pilfered belongings. Eventually she was captured by a tribe of elves and rather than slain, she was taught. Encouraging her to fulfill her potential as more than a rampaging monster, they opened her eyes to art, religion, history, philosophy, music, and more. She absorbed information with ravenous intensity, picking up several languages during her time with the Wild Elves. But it wasn't until a traveling sorcerer happened across the isolated community that her interest in magic was sparked. Her heritage had imparted on her immense inborn ability. Hungry for more, she joined a traveling gypsy caravan and headed south.

Sundown

Drache eventually arrived in Sundown, one of the largest populated areas in the world. The city was constantly beset by hostile forces from within and without. At the time of Drache's arrival, the government had been infiltrated by a secret cabal of slave-trading vampires, and the populace feared for their lives. With a Governor's promise that she would be considered for a place in the exclusive magic academy, Drache joined up with a motley crew of hand-selected magic-users and warriors, and thus begun a long career of daring adventures and near-death experiences, enjoying both her rewards and her contribution to the greater good. Many of these encounters involved horrible monsters, both living and undead, or dieties walking among mortals, or traveling to other planes of existence. The dragoness picked up many things along the way, expanded her holdings to impressive proportions, and even took an impressive male red dragon to be her life-mate. Well advanced in magical abilities, she became a force to be reckoned with and a fantastic compliment to the skills of her fellows.

During one fateful confrontation that involved a dragon Goddess and a vampiric drow priestess, Drache was banished from the world along with her best friend and consort, Kira Kodera.

Myrken

Drache awoke on the sandy shores of Ghreu Fenn in early 211. Dazed and disoriented and unaware that Kira had been transported with her, she took to the skies and headed south, inland, looking for a place to settle and give birth to the unborn child of Rhousek, an enemy and captor that she had left slain.

She arrived in Myrken Wood at the height of summer and first walked into the Broken Dagger to seek rest for the night. She quickly befriended several of the tavern regulars, including Genny, the Innkeeper Dulcie, and the bard Descant. Resolving to only stay for a few weeks before moving on to seek warmer climes, she became ensnared in local intrigue and eventually secured a lair for herself in the Silver Mountains. Able to access a small portion of her former hoard through a piece of extradimensional magic, she is reasonably secure financially, though her true passion is for books of all kinds.

Shortly after her arrival, she helped plan and fund a Ball with Descant that ended in disaster due to the machinations of Suede Roschen.

On the night of the winter solstice, Drache gave birth to Rhindanithoryx, an opal-scaled half-dragon. When the babe was barely a month old, the addled creature Catch kidnapped her, spurring Drache to reveal her full-sized form to track him down. She ended up damaging part of the tavern in the effort, which didn't earn her any favours with the town's new committee.

Most Recent

Drache is currently recovering from bodily damages inflicted on her by Glimmershade, a shadow-drake who is in league with the drow. She has opened a shop in town to sell spell-crafting supplies, and to offer her own considerable services as a mage. Slowly building connections to Razasan and Meadowford, she hopes to network with other magi, improve her reputation, and secure an income. She is most notably opposed by the new governor Glenn Burnie, and Catch proves to be an intermittent thorn in her side. Her closest confidantes are Kira Kodera, who shares her home, and Zilliah, a telepathic fae prone to acts of mischief and spite whom she has grown close to against the odds. She counts the desert nomad and copper dragon Zerdali as a godmother to Rhin, and is becoming rapidly attached to an elderly and rather eccentric sea-drake named Harrasyntehp. Her former manservant Andre, a human thief whose life she spared after defeating him in a brawl, recently betrayed her and is on the run. The new Councilwoman Agnieszka has enlisted her in secret to help advance her own designs.
