The word "Believe" has taken on a connotation of its own in Myrken Wood. It has been connected to murder, death, religion, and the occult since the word was first written as graffiti on a wall next to an apparent suicide victim.

Origins

((Here there should be details about Kinny Fletcherson, the Mertsons, and the word written on the wall at Giscard's.))

The Order of the All

((Here info on the Order's adoption of Believe...probably should include an OOC note about the information not being widely known))

Retaliatory Murders

{{#invoke:main|main}}

In the early Spring of A.R. 206, a string of unusual murders dotted the landscape of Myrkentown. It seemed at first that the attacker selected his victims at random, for only two of them were related by blood (Gorje and Alwyn Swithin); when questioned on the matter, peers and family invariably replied that the others were not even aquaintances. The only clear connection between one man and the next was the text which invariably accompanied each corpse, whether carved into its chest, or scrawled bloodily upon a nearby wall. In order of their writing, the accompanying texts read:

  • Belief is Death
  • Recant
  • Surrender him
  • Faith / Fear
  • Belief?
  • Fawn

Notable for their viciousness, as well as the messages that they seemed designed to convey, the string of murders managed to capture some public attention -- as well as that of one Brother Prime, although this fact was not publicised beyond Prime's inner circle of devotees. They also drew the attention of the Order of Straka, although not a single arrest was made as a result; despite this, its charismatic Sergeant Aeryn Karolinger assured those citizens he encountered that the matter was quite under control.

Accurately, perhaps, for the killings ended in the final days at Spring, finding their natural end in the mutilated corpse of Gorje Swithin. To this day, the murderer remains unidentified and at large.
