Paul

Occupation: Full-time college English instructor

Age: 43

Paul's role playing experiences began in a slight twist on the usual way: he was exposed to Dungeons & Dragons, then owned by TSR, at nine years old, when he saw an advertisement for one of their boxed sets (Set 5: Immortal Rules) on the back of a comic book and told his mother he'd like to give it a shot. That Christmas, he was sitting in the living room reading through the first boxed set (Basic Rules) and playing through the sample solo mission in the first book.

He was hooked.

This led in the short term to more focused attempts at role-play with cousins and neighbors, progressing from D&D through all manner of other tabletop RPG systems about everything under the sun, until he was in his senior year of high school. That's when Dungeons & Dragons made a sudden reappearance, when Paul was playing in about a year long campaign with a good friend, the friend's (now-ex) girlfriend, and the friend's sister.

This was in 1997. That Christmas, Paul ended up commandeering an FFRP channel from a short-term acquaintance on Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net. This evolved into Paul's own Fox Hole, which in turn was renamed to Volpone Manor, which was ultimately replaced by #Delamar on Sorcery.net, and Paul was introduced to that Crazy Dan and about a couple dozen others.

VM lasted for about two years, give or take, and was brought to a quiet, almost playerless, close after, with Paul bouncing off to Sorcery to RP in a host of different rooms, spending roughly 2000 to 2002 or so mostly in one of the major channels on that server under the nickname of Roderic--as in Roderic G. Cliché, baron of Delamar, precursor to Aloisius Treadwell, and all around fun character.

Paul made it to the Dagger in 2003 and introduced Treadwell to the scene almost immediately with a somewhat high-profile plotline involving Tready having replaced deceased governor Gad Phuri in secret. The next years followed Treadwell's fairly odd scandals, magical mishaps, affairs, and marriages. Treadwell currently holds a longstanding post on Myrken's Council, leads the Church of Tubbius, and owns a local toy shop.

In the past, Paul served the Dagger as a channel operator for approximately a year or two, stepping down in early 2006. He is also largely responsible for building on a friend's creations of Westenford and Aloisius Treadwell, incorporating them to this setting, and developing them to their current forms. In addition, he came up with the bulk of the ideas for New Hibera and its related Old Hibera.

Paul RPs primarily to break away from stress, although there are also the very sizeable benefits of keeping his typing skills sharp and giving him an opportunity to continue writing despite having a lack of time to do so outside of FFRP thanks to work!

Active Characters in Channel and on the Forums

Active Characters Primarily on the Forums

The Hiberan fairies fit under this section, most notably Richard Aengus and his brother Dr. Orin Barrin. In addition, many of Treadwell's acquaintances from Westenford and from the Church of Tubbius fit here, as do the members of The Creator's pantheon, including The Glutton in his various forms and his son Libri, The Scholar.
